How to Ensure Your Car Runs Smoothly the Rest of the Summer
Although we’re looking at the taillights of the July 4th holiday, summer is still rollin on and that means you should keep your car doing the same. Before you take off on your next summer adventure, make sure to consider these 5 tips to take care of your car during these hot summer months.
Check your car’s coolant – Make sure to check your coolant reservoir to make sure it is at the appropriate level for your car to run cool. If your car can’t properly dissipate the heat it can overheat and cause major problems for your car’s engine.
Change the oil – Have your car’s oil changed to keep your car running pristine. You don’t need to change your car’s oil exactly at 3,000 miles but trying not to let it get over 5,000-7,000 miles. Plan ahead if you know you’re taking a long trip and your car could use some fresh oil.
Check your brakes – We tend to drive a little more in the summer and with no chance of snow, we may tend to even drive a little faster. With faster speeds come more wear on your car’s brakes. You can replace pads anywhere from 20,000-70,000 miles so it doesn’t hurt to have them checked.
Battery maintenance – The cold winter months can really put a strain on your car’s battery but you may not feel the effects until your battery gives out in the summer. The is really good to keep in mind when you’re planning on hitting the road and going on an adventure. Have your car’s battery checked ahead of time.
Test your tire pressure – Improper tire pressure can actually affect your gas mileage especially if you’re traveling long distances. Make sure to check if each tire is inflated to the proper amount before traveling this summer.
